Chapter 44: Epilogue

Wow. It’s been awhile since I’ve written anything. Commented on anything. Pretty much done anything fanfic related. I haven’t even started reading QFD’s latest Sid story! But she sent me a text, knowing I’ve had some writer’s block, and said “I hope this Christmas challenge for the group gets your mind working.”
So, I sat down and thought to myself ‘Who do I want to write about?’ My mind automatically shot to Sid, because… he’s Sid* But, I also kind of felt wrong for writing about him since I’d taken so much time is developing the storyline between him and ‘Melany’ in A Lucky Shot. That only left one option…
EPILOGUE!!! Lol
I hope you guys like it, and I hope that I can get some other writing done now that I’ve filed out this*

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree.

Mel glared at the docking station that currently held her iPod. She had decided to do some Christmas cookie baking… even though she had no one to bake for. It was nine a.m., Christmas Eve. And she was home, alone. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. She had hung up the phone last night, tears rolling down her cheeks as she replayed the words he’d said.

“We’re grounded Melany. No flights in or out of Winnipeg until further notice. I’m so sorry baby. I know how much you wanted us together this year.”

It wasn’t just because of her that she wanted him here. It was the third Christmas they’d been together. They’d gotten through a Stanley Cup, two early exits in the playoffs, that fucking concussion incident… She hadn’t realized how patient she really was until the dual hits in January. She had walked on eggshells until May. On her birthday, she refused to live like a hermit with him.

Erin had made Geno keep their daughter at home. And Amanda had abandoned Brooks in Boston. The three had taken a trip to Vegas for a long weekend. And when she’d returned, he had started to turn back into the Sidney she’d fallen in love with. By the end of summer, he was laughing with the guys, training, somewhat, and talking with Mario daily about what else he could do to get back in shape.

Max leaving had hit him hard, but the two were still speaking, and she was glad of that. Because Max Talbot would always hold a special place in her heart for all he did to help them get together, and stay together. The end of summer had also brought along a surprise. A surprise that just kicked her. Hard.

“John… Ow… Little heathen. You’re not even out yet, and already you’re causing me grief. I’m telling your father… if he ever makes it back home to us.”

The oven dinged that it was preheated and she rubbed her belly, feeling the little boy inside her twist around and push against her fingers. She smiled as she remembered the first time Sid had gone with her to the doctor’s. Watching his face as he heard the heartbeat, saw the little grainy picture… it had been worth the mornings of running to the bathroom, the afternoons of running to the bathroom, the couple evening of running to the bathroom.

All of that sickness was worth it to see the awe on his face and the tears in his eyes.

Taking a deep breath, she placed the first two trays of cookies into the lower oven and set the timer. Turning off the music, she went to the living room, grabbed her book, and came back to sit at the dining room table to read while she waited for the cookies to bake. She glanced at the clock and willed her husband to call.

“I’ll call you if there’s any chance of getting home tomorrow, I promise. I love you sweetheart.”

That was what he told her before he clicked off. Now it was just playing The Waiting Game and keeping her hopes up. She set down the book, unable to read anything, and got Cole some breakfast. As she poured some food into the bowl she heard the thump of paws on carpet, then the fast-paced click of his nails on the floor as their lovable dog flew into the kitchen for food.

“You’d like to see your master home as well, wouldn’t you, buddy?”

Cole barked and dug into his food. She smiled and went about baking for the entire morning. Around noon she finally stopped, placing all of the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and hitting START, before sending Sid a text.

I don’t know why you haven’t called. But I’m betting you didn’t charge your phone, and it’s dead. But I just wanted to let you know that I love you, and I hope to see you soon. And I’m taking a nap, so don’t call unless you need a ride from the airport.

She sent a quick text to Geno too, just in case Sid’s phone really was dead. Then she climbed up the stairs and crawled into bed. Her eyes closed before her head hit the pillow. When she woke up, she tensed as she felt an arm resting over her expanding middle. She looked down and saw the shining gold band on the ring finger. Her husband was home.

Spinning quickly, or as quickly as she could in her condition, she buried her face in his neck and wrapped her arm around his side, her fingers splayed across his smooth, muscled, shirtless back. She didn’t even realize she was crying until Sid brushed his thumb over her cheek and spoke.

“Don’t cry Melany. I told you I’d be home for Christmas. Couldn’t leave you and the little man alone, now could I?”

His head bent toward her and his lips covered hers in a soft kiss. She quickly pulled him as close as possible, her tongue sliding along his lip, and then said lips parting as he groaned.

One of his hands cupped a breast, tweaking her nipple and making her gasp and arch against him. He chuckled as she gripped his arm hard, and then he whispered for her to turn on her other side. Complying with his wishes, Mel quickly found her sleep shirt whisked over her head and one leg thrown over both of his.

“I’ve missed you baby. You said that Dr. Wilson was positive that…”

“Yes, completely safe…. Pleeeaaassseeee, don’t tease me Sidney,”

He chuckled once more and then she let her lids flutter closed and she felt the head of his hard shaft part her folds. After that, she took to clawing at the sheets as she felt every magnificent inch sink inside of her. They both moaned at that.

Sid slid his right hand under her bringing it up to palm her breast. His other hand skimmed over her side, finding and coating his fingers with her wetness before rubbing two fingers over her clit. The spike of pleasure coursed through her, making her body jerk and her breath quicken.

They stayed that way until she thought for her she would pass out and then, as he made her scream yet again, she heard his grunt and felt his teeth nip her shoulder as he poured himself deep inside her. She sighed in pleasure and curled into him as they both drifted off to sleep. It was only about an hour later when she woke up to the feeling of something running over her stomach. Opening her eyes, Mel bit back a grin.

Laying on his stomach, chin in one hand, fingers of the other tracing lines over her belly, was Sid. He was talking to the baby growing inside her, his accent thicker as he spoke quietly.

“Mommy and I didn’t jostle you around too much, did we? She said it was okay. If you’re suffering from vertigo, or something, it’s all her fault. You just remember that.”

“Please stop trying to turn our son against me.”

Sid laughed and crawled up the bed until he was sitting against the headboard. He hauled her up as well, letting her sit between his legs.

“Well, aren’t you going to ask how we got home?”

“Don’t need to. I already know.”

“Oh, is that so?”

“Of course. It was Santa.”

“Well, you better make sure you thank him for looking out for you, right?”

“Definitely. I’ll talk to him when he stops by tonight. Until then, I’m starving, you?”

“Ravenous,” Sid replied, nibbling on her neck.

They finally emerged from their bedroom around six, and she started putting together a chicken dish as Sid called to see if anyone wanted to come over. They ended up with a small group, everyone bringing something for dinner or dessert, and spent the rest of Christmas Eve with friends.

Later that night, as Sid lay there sleeping, Mel awoke to the faint sound of something outside. She climbed out of bed and went to the window, just in time to see a flash of something above the house. She whispered out a heartfelt thanks that the guys got home for Christmas, and smiled as she heard a jolly ‘ho, ho, ho.’ She crawled back into bed, and into the arms of the man she loved, and was happy that she had been given that little bit of Christmas luck.

  3. This was wonderful with the Christmas theme but I could still have much more. This was such a great story. Love the two of them together and wish it wasnt' over. Of course, if you want to write a new Sid story, I could be appeased with that.
    Thanks!
